What is poplin and where does it come from?

Poplin is a tight weaving technique that creates a smooth, thin and lustrous fabric. Poplin cotton is a quality that is similar to cotton, however slightly finer woven. The fabric has a strong, delicate character and is very suitable to wear in tropical temperatures.

Poplin cotton finds its origin in the 15th century in France. Back then it was mainly woven from silk and cotton, but wool was also popular during the winter months. Poplin has not always been used for clothing; in the past this fabric structure was also used to make exclusive furniture. Nowadays, in addition to clothing, the fabric is used for luxury sheets and bedding.

Casual and formal

The strong character of poplin, combined with its soft lustrous surface, makes it the ultimate material to wear in both casual and formal situations. The fabric is primarily made from 100% real cotton, making it lightweight while keeping its strength. It is specially woven with two yarns of the same thickness in a tightly woven flat weave fabric; this results in a thin, simultaneously sturdy quality that will not crease easily.
