about us

heritage

Shortly after the Second World War the couple Pauw-Thiry opened the first Pauw store at the Europaplein in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The concept of Pauw, a multibrand-store, was a local success, and in the following years more stores were opened in cities throughout The Netherlands.

In the 60’s, their daughters made their entries into the family company. Madeleine and Henriette decided to expand and amplify the businessmodel: besides carrying various names in fashion, Pauw becomes a concept that also offers avant-garde labels. The sisters saw potential in - until then - relatively unknown labels from Paris, London and Milan. As it happens, they became one of the first to introduce Comme des Garçons, Kenzo and Dries van Noten to The Netherlands.

During the 80’s, Pauw keeps developing; in 1980 the first Pauw Mannen (later Pauw Mannen Luxury Tailoring) is opened at the Van Baerlestraat in Amsterdam. Where the focus was first predominantly women’s fashion, Pauw widens her array and ventures into the world of menswear. At first labels like Paul Smith and Ralph Lauren were carried. It was not long before labels characteristic of the South Italian style were added. Eventually this discipline became vital in the brand portfolio of the Pauw Mannen boutiques.

Besides intensifying activities on the spectrum of women’s fashion, Pauw also focuses on amplifying her masculine appeal. In April 2013 a second store solely targeting male audiences is opened in Amsterdam. Simultaneously, the Pauw Mannen Private Label was introduced.

Anno 2021, Pauw is represented by 28 self-owned stores in The Netherlands, of which three exclusively offer menswear.

concept

From the start, Pauw has always sold a selection of various exclusive labels. Pauw Mannen Luxury Tailoring was the first boutique in The Netherlands to sell labels such as Kiton, Attolini, Brioni, Caruso, Finamore, and later labels such as Loro Piana and Orazio Luciano. In the same way, more sportsmanlike brands such as Woolrich made their first steps in Dutch markets through Pauw Mannen.

The selection of Pauw Mannen Luxury Tailoring is aimed at exuding class, style and elegance, as well as reinforcing these feelings. The identity of Pauw Mannen is classic and timeless. Refined Italian suits with sharp and defining lines enable a well-kept appearance suitable for work as well as weddings and other occasions.

concept concept

To cater to the needs of a younger generation with an informal but luxurious lifestyle, Pauw Mannen Luxury Denim was introduced. This concept carries labels as Jacob Cohen, Aspesi, Arc’teryx Veilance, Common Projects, D by D, Ten C and Zanone. The broad range of available labels and items leads to the possibility of shopping for an elegant statement at all times. Besides clothing, Pauw Mannen Luxury Denim also offers accessories like eyewear, watches, shoes and grooming attributes.

Pauw Mannen Private Label offers her customers tailor-made suits, completely customised to the wishes of the individual. The independently owned label found the ideal ambassador in television personality and entrepreneur Winston Gerschtanowitz, nephew of Madeleine and Christiaan Klein Pauw. Winston almost exclusively wears Pauw Mannen Private Label during appearances and is closely involved with the W-Line, a cut and fit based on Winston’s personal preferences.

A core aspect in all the Pauw Mannen philosophies is the degree to which we value personal service. The individual locations carry carefully selected items from various luxurious labels. These items are specifically selected by location and tuned in to the local wishes of the male audience. Through this, Pauw aims to provide her customers with a truly individual and personal shopping experience.

made to measure

Pauw Mannen associates itself with craftsmanship. To showcase the artisanal, personal and unique character of the brands available at Pauw Mannen, we regularly organize trunk shows.

These trunk shows provide a platform for our clients to commission personalised orders, and offer the opportunity to meet and talk to the individuals and ateliers crafting the products they know and trust. At the same time, the trunk shows provide the artisans with the opportunity to get in touch with those using and enjoying their products.

As an additional service, the Pauw Mannen team also offer year round made-to-measure and made-to-order services from a host of artisans and producers. In our custom made services, we strive for the experience to be both comprehensive and conscientious.
