About the brand
- italian craftsmanship

- high-performance materials
Herno was founded in 1948 by Giuseppe Marenzi and his wife Alessandra Diana on the shores of Lake Maggiore. The high-performance raincoat is inspired by the ever-evolving element water – whether it is the river or the lake, the rain, the fog, the snow, or the humidity. Water can be seen as Herno’s muse, standing for connection, love, passion, challenge, ingenuity, and success....read moreThe muse took shape into functional jackets, high-performance coats which are well designed and crafted – all with the superior workmanship in Italy. Developed into useful: to protect from the cold and find shelter against the rain, the northern-wind, and the humidity of the lake region. After the second World War, the couple saw the opportunity of setting up a business from cotton which was treated with castor oil from planes abandoned by the war. The raincoat was the first design – developed into women’s garments, reversible and hand-woven cashmere coats. Currently Claudio Marenzi, the couple’s son, is the CEO.
The down used in Herno garments is sourced from 2 locations that are very different and far apart: Siberia and the Italian valley of Lomellina, whose entire output is used in honour of the origins of Claudio Marenzi's mother, Alessandra. The link with the local region is authentic, operating with respect to the nature surrounding the shore of Lake Maggiore. Within Herno, studying the details has become a philosophy. Research and innovation are constantly introducing increasingly high-performance textiles, presenting authentically green collections under the Herno Globe label. It is a new way of thinking about manufacturing that guarantees that level of excellence that is not just a target to be achieved but is the very essence of each garment.
