HERITAGE
Shortly after the Second World War, the Pauw-Thiry couple opened their first store on Europaplein in Amsterdam. The concept of Pauw, a multi-brand store, is innovative and appreciated, resulting in more stores being opened in subsequent years.
In the 1960s, the couple's daughters, Madeleine and Henriette, entered the family business. They expand and adapt the concept: in addition to carrying different brands, avant-garde brands are included in the range. The sisters see potential in unknown brands from Paris, London and Milan. They are one of the first to introduce Comme des Garçons, Kenzo and Dries van Noten in the Netherlands.
In 1980, Pauw expands with the opening of Pauw Mannen (later Pauw Mannen Luxury Tailoring) on the van Baerlestraat in Amsterdam. While the focus used to be mainly on women's fashion, Pauw is now broadening her horizons and entering the world of men's clothing. Initially, brands such as Paul Smith and Ralph Lauren are carried. Soon a leading discipline was added: the Southern Italian style.
In addition to her activities on the feminine side of the spectrum, Pauw further focuses on expanding her masculine appeal. In April 2013, a second store, aimed exclusively at men, was opened: Pauw Mannen Luxury Denim. The Pauw Men Private Label is also being introduced.
By 2024, Pauw will have 26 stores in the Netherlands, four of which are aimed at men.
