The story behind the brand
Max Mara was founded in 1951 by visionary Achille Maramotti in Reggio Emili, who seamlessly combined Italian craftsmanship and innovative fashion in his designs. The fashion house was initially called Confezioni Maramotti with the aim of introducing American industrial processes into European tailoring culture and thus creating an Italian pret-a-porter. In 1957, the company expanded and moved to its new headquarters, designed by industrial architect Eugenio Salvarani, and changed its name to Max Mara. 'Max' is a superlative, while 'Mara' is an abbreviation of the founder's last name, Maramotti.
Starting with a now iconic collection of ready-to-wear coats made from pure camel hair, the brand quickly became famous for its refined aesthetic and attention to detail. Max Mara has always viewed fashion as both an art and a science, with an emphasis on timeless silhouettes and superior tailoring. The brand is known for luxurious fabrics and meticulous Italian craftsmanship that set trends while honoring its rich history. Today, Max Mara is synonymous with understated luxury and empowers women worldwide with its iconic designs.
