Daniél Meul - Buyer & Retail Manager

At Pauw Mannen we are firm believers that just because the sun is out and the temperature is up it doesn’t justify sloppy style. On that note, we have asked our Buyer and Retail Manager Daniél Meul to pick out his top items for the Spring / Summer season.

Cesare Attolini’s Cashmere silk summer jacket
Summer is finally here and now being the time to start a personal debate on whether buying your standard linen suits/jackets are going to be worth it. After all I’m not living in the south of France so realistically we are still going to see some unpredictable weather. That’s why I prefer to take my own advice that I give to my customers and invest in items that are technically 4 season pieces. There are a couple reasons why I have chosen this Cesare Attolini houndstooth jacket. Firstly, anyone that knows me is aware that I have a soft spot for houndstooth, every season I manage to sneak in a few new houndstooth pieces. Secondly, the composition of this jacket is a cashmere and silk mix which on paper people would assume you would be crazy for wearing it in summer but high quality cashmere and silk have great breathable qualities making this to me the ideal jacket.

Brunello Cucinelli’s reversible leather gilet
Versatility is my middle name, that’s why I feel you can’t go wrong with this beautifully designed Brunello Cucinelli reversible gilet. Super soft brown calf leather on one side which oozes class and sophistication, and a contrast of navy cotton on the other which can give a great sports lux feel to your outfit. When wearing on the leather side I like to pair it with a soft cotton navy Finamore shirt and a pair of trusty off white Jacob Cohën jeans.

Andrea d’Amico’s crocodile belt
My third item for this season I have gone for a Andrea D’Amico crocodile belt. After seeing some images of Fred Astaire in his heyday I have fallen in love with the idea of slim (2.5cm) belts with ornate buckles. That subtle break across the waist can be very flattering for an outfit, however I feel belts don’t belong with suits but perfectly compliment jackets and trouser separates, especially pleated front trousers and distressed denim jeans.

Bontoni’s intrecciato woven loafers
I had to finish off my summer picks with a pair of shoes. I have a strict rule that only Bontoni and St.Crispin’s dress shoes will do. With summer being my only focus for these picks I have chosen a beautiful pair of intrecciato woven loafers by Bontoni. At our last buying appointment with Bontoni I mentioned the idea of a woven leather loafer to Creative Director Franco Gazzani and as if by magic he showed me exactly what I was describing. He had been working on this for some time and like fate it was ready at the point of our meeting. An exclusive for Pauw, you do really have to see them in person to appreciate their true beauty and quality. Wearing possibilities are endless but I prefer to pair them with a cream jean that sit just above by ankle, or a neutral toned suit for a real Havana feel.
